Cartoon MMORPG
Toontown Rewritten, commonly abbreviated as TTR, is an MMORPG based on the now-defunct Toontown Online. It is a fan-made role-playing game that picks up where the original game left off. Here, players can still visit the Toontown in the character that they customize and interact with the community. They can also complete missions and battle the Cogs with laughter. Toontown Rewritten is a free-to-play game. However, expect a lot of bugs and crashes as you play.
How does the game work?
You start the game by creating your character called a Toon, inhabitant of Toontown that takes the form of animal cartoon characters. There are various character customization options available, such as size, species, and color. You can also name them by choosing from the pre-made list or make your own. Note, however, that since this is primarily a kid's game, your character will be looked over first to ensure that it is appropriate for the younger audience.
Once completed, you can then freely explore the town. There are multiple playgrounds you can visit, each with its perks and difficulties. You can also do various missions, called Toontasks, to collect rewards, such as a higher laff limit, new gag tracks, and special effects. Like in the original game, the cogs are everywhere, and they are determined to propagate the business culture. You will battle them out with gags. Make them laugh, and they will explode.
The developers also added a few improvements to enhance the player's experience. The new Options Update now lets players remap the controls to any keys. More, the toons can now walk instead of run. However, you can make them accelerate by pushing the key longer. These changes may not seem like such a big deal, but it is monumental if you have been a long-time Toontown Online fan and are familiar with the limitations it had.
Same mindless fun
Fans of the original online Disney game can take a trip down memory lane with Toontown Rewritten. The game brings back everything you love about the original but offers a few improvements to make it more enjoyable to play. The animation is still a bit wonky, and issues like freezing and crashing occur pretty often. But that's to be expected from a game that came out in early 2003.
